France chapter 1.

So since entering France on 6 weeks ago we have had a great time travelling from the North to the South. We have been skiing in the Alps and walked along the Beach in Antibes. When I set off on this trip I must admit that France was not that high on my bucket list. When I lived in the UK I had traveled here mostly with work and not really had chance to see anywhere out of the major cities.

Travelling down in Rollie has opened my eyes to a wonderful country that for the past 7 weeks has been my home and has made us all feel welcome. In Le Grand Bornand we felt like we were locals by the time we left such a pretty town with so many activities on offer. Staying off the toll roads after leaving Le Grand Bornand we came across some beautiful little towns steeped in history that we have had the pleasure to explore.

There are a few things that niggle me though about France, these are toilet seats, and dog poo! What is it that the French have against toilet seats? Nearly all of the public toilets we have used do not have toilet seats, this is ok for a quick number 1 but not very pleasant for a number 2. Also, I have been told the French love their dogs, so much that no one in the whole of France (except me) seems to pick up their dog poo.

Living on board for the first 6 weeks has been a big change for us all. All 4 (including the dog) of us have to be very tolerant of each other sharing such a small space. We have realised that only one person can occupy an area like the kitchen at any time otherwise you are on top of each other and can not function. No matter where we put Bosun’s water bowl someone seems to knock it over. I also have a much greater appreciation for teachers.

But surely even a seatless toilet is better than a Turkish toilet? 😉 Those are a true pleasure

It seems the West side of France is not so opposed to the East and about 80% have seats, although some just have a hole with places for your feet either side, really lucky I did not need a number 2 in that one!
