York to Islay

After a few weeks of rest for Rollie we were eager to get back behind the wheel and make our way North heading towards Islay for the Whiskey Festival to top off Paul’s birthday celebrations.

Our first stop was only an hour away from where Paul grew up in the Yorkshire Dales. We had a stop off to do the Ingleton Waterfall walk which took about 3 hours and was brilliant. Amazing waterfalls nestled in amazing countryside.

Carlisle Castle was our next stop and here we learned about the castle and its history. We also got chased away from our park for the night at 10pm by some very inquisitive bullocks who took a liking to Rollie.

We were meeting friends from Australia in Glasgow so had 3 nights in a parking lot in the center which was brilliant. I met an old school friend the first night by randomly contacting on facebook and then the following day we met our close friends from Australia. It was lovely hanging out checking out the sights of Glasgow.

The boys went to a Rugby match final and I got to have a girls night with my friend which was lovely.

Following Glasgow we stopped over looking Loch Lomond and Connor took to building a bridge across a stream feeding into the loch. He succeeded as I managed to cross without getting my feet wet. Although it was raining most of the time so this was the only part of me not wet.

A lovely little fishing town call Tarbert was next. We arrived when there was a sailing regatta on so the place was buzzing. We parked by the waterside and enjoyed strolling along the street and up to the old castle ruins.

Next morning we set off early for the ferry to Islay.
